Len didn't say much, though he wasn't shy about telling Raymond that he thought his plan was idiotic. Sara's was nearly as bad, but at least possible. Silently, he was supporting it, but only because he didn't dare give the suggestion that was floating around in his own mind.
Several times, he saw Rip look at James. When Rip looked at Len, he saw the time master pale at the look on Len's face. Maybe Rip was thinking what he was thinking, but Len was sure it was neither of their place to offer James up like a sacrificial lamb.
Then James disappeared. Len figured that he was frustrated and maybe unable to handle the emotions that all of this was bringing up. Rip wouldn't care, but Len did, and he'd fight to the death to make sure this jaunt to 1944 didn't cause more pain to James then it had to.
And then James walked back in, looking like the All-American boyscout's junior sidekick.
Stein was the first one to step forward. "B-but...but my boy, that's amazing. You look the spitting image of Sergeant Barnes. I always wondered, but now I'm almost certain. Are you possibly a relative of his?"
Len gritted his teeth. "Leave it alone, Martin." Of course Martin Stein would be a Cap fanboy.
